Meet Brodie: they call it Puppy Love: this sweet, adorable puppy is a bit over 3 months old. He is an active, ornery, fun-loving, cuddly, adorable, busy puppy. Brodie loves everyone and everything and fears nothing! He could melt the hardest heart. He was surrendered by a breeder because of a heart defect (treatable!).
A veterinary cardiologist from Purdue University has assessed the underlying cause of Brodie’s Grade 3-4 heart murmur as supravalvular pulmonic stenosis. It sounds scary, but it is basically a narrowing of the pulmonary artery just past the pulmonary valve that causes the right side of the heart to work harder than normal. The good news is that with a procedure called a balloon valvuloplasty, Brodie can be expected to live a long, healthy life. Brodie isn’t ready for this procedure yet, but needs to be monitored by ultrasound again in 1-3 months to determine if he is ready then.
