Meet Matthew. This sweet little guy was hit by a car and left on the side of the road. A good Samaritan brought him in to a veterinary specialist for treatment. After an owner did not come forward, the vet clinic called our North Carolina Coordinator and asked us to bring this sweet boy into rescue.
Matthew had a fractured pelvis and required surgery to fix it. He was on crate rest for 8 weeks to help him recover. After his 8-week recovery period, he was taken back to Carolina Veterinary Specialists for a recheck. His surgeon was very pleased with his progress. Although his pelvic fractures have mended, he still has some healing ahead and will need about a few more weeks of recovery time. Matthew was given the green light to resume his normal activities with a caution not to allow him to play with bigger dogs that could knock him down and cause further injury.
Matthew now is not in any pain, and he absolutely loves to play. Although the veterinarians believe he is about 3 years old, he has the temperament of a puppy. He loves to nibble on fingers and toes and has a lot of energy. He loves to play ball, and will chase the ball and bring it back to you. He loves his chew toys but has to be watched with stuffed toys and blankets, as he loves to tear them apart!
We are happy to note that Matthew just went home with a new family. His veterinary bills were well over $7,000. Without the care of his dedicated foster family and the support of those of you who have contributed to our group over the years, this happy outcome couldn't have happened. Our gratitude!
Here is Matthew with his new family...
