Lucille in Mechanicsburg, PA
Here is the pup with her new family…
Lucille is a petite 4-5 year old Blenheim girl with beautiful big brown eyes. Hers is a story of transformation. She has spent most of her life in a breeding facility. She was rescued by a good Samaritan who quickly realized she did not have the resources to take care of her needs and was released to Cavalier Rescue USA.
The veterinarian found she had grade 3 luxating patellas. These were repaired and she was spayed. This is where the transformation began. Lucille had to be kept quiet with very limited movement for the first several weeks. As she got better, she was able to do more. For the first time, she was able to move without pain. It’s been almost two months since her surgery and she is a new dog. She recently discovered toys and boy, does she love playing. She also enjoys tug-o-war with her littlest foster brother. Outside, she likes to chase bugs and look for critters. Chipmunks are a special favorite.
Lucille can get overwhelmed easily when in new places and seeing new things. However she recovers nicely with some assurances. She enjoys going for walks and riding in the car. She’s great with other dogs but still a little hesitant when meeting new people. She is a barker and barks when excited. There are so many new things for her to be excited about like, mealtimes, playing with toys, belly rubs, greeting foster mom after she has been out of her sight for 10 minutes, going outside or for rides. “Go” is one of her favorite words.
When not looking forward to her next adventure, Lucille is happiest curled up in your lap. As a matter of fact whenever someone is sitting down, Lucille feels she should be in their lap. She is a sweet, loving and very happy girl.
She is crate trained and currently lives with 4 other Cavaliers and one very patient cat. There are times when she would like to chase the cat, but will stop when told no. Lucille would be best as the only dog as the excitement of living with the other dogs in foster care can be a bit overwhelming for her.
Her health is excellent after having had the needed surgeries while in rescue. Her heart is perfect, which for a Cavalier is great news. She is microchipped and up to date on vaccines. She does have an issue with incontinence, however, her veterinarian has prescribed Proin and it has helped tremendously so she is housetrained now. She takes this pill twice a day.
Lucille is a little girl. She is at her perfect weight of 11.9 pounds. Since she had knee surgery it is vitally important she be kept at a good weight. Being overweight would put too much strain on her knees. Additionally, extreme dog sports like agility or lure coursing would not be good for her. However, the way she sniffs around the yard, she would probably be great at scentwork. With more socialization and training, she would be an excellent therapy dog. Of course, she is perfectly suited to her most important role, that of a loving companion who wants to be with her person ❤️.
