Buddy and Bear in Plymouth, MI

Twinsies! These two charming, 7-year-old, black & tan males are double the fun and double the love. In photos, Bear and his half-brother Buddy (who’s six months younger) look nearly identical—with gorgeous black & tan markings and expressive cocoa bean eye-brows. Bear is a little smaller, with hair a tad curlier than Buddy, who sports a wily white whisker on the left side of his face and a mohawk on his forehead. These two fellas have been together since they were pups, so we are adopting them together as a pair.

Bear and Buddy came into rescue when their family had a dramatic change in their living conditions and could not longer keep the dogs in their home. While in foster care, the pair has settled in easily to a regular routine. They have demonstrated very good house manners while in foster care—except when it rains. They are very good friends, but are also independent.

These two handsome lads share a crate for sleeping at night (the crate is next to the people bed) and they are gated in the kitchen when their foster mom leaves the house. They would be happy sleeping in the people bed, but the people may prefer the crate set-up. Buddy snores like a drunken sailer in an echo chamber! They easily sleep through the night (10 pm – 7 am) without needing any potty breaks.

Bear and Buddy spend their days hanging out in the home office of their foster mom (she works from home) lounging around in the many dog beds available. In the evenings, Bear and Buddy love snuggling up next to the people on the couch. They get along well with their foster brothers, who are also Cavaliers.

Bear is the more active and slightly more alpha-dog, compared to Buddy. Buddy is Mr. Chill and loves giving hugs to his people. Bear manages to wiggle his way into the people lap and likes to give doggie kisses. Their fur is especially soft, almost like petting a cloud.

They are both well behaved, although an unfamiliar sound will set off a cacophony of barks and howls from the pair—the same occurs when their people leave the room. They would do best in a home where the people are home during the day and in a single-family house—instead of a condo or apartment.

They enjoying running around in the fenced yard and exploring the outdoors. Walks on a leash are best managed with two people, so each dog can practice not getting wrapped up in the leash. Car rides are a pleasant adventure for the pair. Meeting new people is also great fun for Bear and Buddy. While in foster care, they have not been cat- or kid-tested. They will settle in best at a fur-ever home with a routine and calm environment.

The vet detected a heart murmur in Bear, assessed as a grade 3. He is taking Vetmedin daily (about $60/month from Chewy) and should continue this medication for the rest of his life. Bear should see a cardiologist in about six months to establish a baseline. Buddy has a slightly enlarged heart. No treatment for this is necessary at this time, but his fur-ever family vet should continue to monitor this condition.

Both dogs are taking doggie CBD every morning to help with their transition into foster care and reduce the anxiety when the people leave the room. Both are neutered, up-to-date on their vaccinations and have been micro-chipped. During his recent dentistry, all of Bear’s teeth were removed, which has not slowed him down a bit. His foster family just moistens his kibble with some water at mealtime. Buddy also had his teeth cleaned (and a few removed) while in foster care.

These handsome fellows are sweet as two scoops of chocolate ice cream with a drizzle of carmel and fudge sprinkles in top! They are a fun, friendly, and happy little combo-platter of love.
