Ivy in Huntingtown, MD
Meet Ms. Ivy, also known as Ivy Jane (as her foster mama calls her)! Ivy is a sweet 5-year-old Blenheim Cavalier rescued from a commercial breeding situation. When she arrived in foster care, she was incredibly timid and shy; however, over the last several months, she’s worked very hard to “find her brave” and is slowly coming out of her shell and beginning to trust humans. Her foster home has a large crate in the living room where she can go if she wants to feel safe, but she spends less and less time in the crate and more time snuggling on the couch with her foster Cavalier brother.
She is happy to lie on the couch and sleep throughout the day, but she also does well on a leash and enjoys going for a daily walk or a ride in the car. Ivy is very gentle and calm but also observant and notices when her foster brother is getting pets, and she’s not; she is more open to receiving affection and love with him by her side.
She sleeps through the night in a crate next to her foster brother and the big bed with her humans, but she’d probably love to snuggle next to you in the big bed someday if she were allowed to.
Ivy is a petite girl, weighing in at a little over 14lbs. She received intake vetting, during which it was determined that she is in good health. While in foster care, she was spayed and received a much-needed dental cleaning, where only 3 of her teeth were extracted. She has a wonderful appetite and is very food-motivated, especially now that she’s eating a high-quality diet.
She knows a few basic commands, like “come” and “house” (to go in her crate), and would quickly learn others – especially if rewarded with boiled chicken. She was house trained while in rescue.
It’s very clear that Ivy has lived a challenging life prior to coming into rescue, and she deserves the perfect forever home where she will be loved and pampered. The ideal home would be with a family where someone is home most of the time to give her the attention she deserves. She is good with children, she loves her 4-year-old foster brother, but she does best in a situation where the household is relatively calm and quiet. Her family must be patient and committed to teaching her that she is safe and loved. Ivy would do best paired with another Cavalier that she can learn from, as she continues to build trust and “find her brave.” Finally, she will need a very secure, fenced-in yard to keep her safe; she has repeatedly gotten out of her foster family’s fenced yard and will need to be watched closely while she’s outside.
If you are interested in this precious girl and think you are a good match for her needs, please fill out an online application (if you haven’t already) and send an email to Rescue Coordinator Diane Lombardo at cavalierrescueusamdwv@gmail.com to let her know of your interest.
