Nellie in Maricopa, AZ
Say hello to Miss Nellie, an 11 year-old tricolor Cavalier born on December 1, 2013. Nellie is the true definition of a sweetheart, and will supply unlimited amounts of companionship and love. She is happiest sitting beside her foster mom or dad. Nellie came into rescue because her elderly owner could no longer care for her.
Nellie is a quintessential “Velcro dog” who loves her people. Nellie keeps tabs on her foster parents at all times and will follow them from room to room. Nellie should be placed in a home where there is someone home for the majority of the time. She has some separation anxiety but this has improved while living with her foster family. Nellie does well when left alone for short periods of time by having a bit of peanut butter in her Kong and goes excitedly into her crate.
Nellie prefers to sleep on the bed with her foster family. She does well sleeping through the night without any problems. Nellie is 100% house trained and will bark to let you know if she needs to go outside.
Nellie gets along exceptionally well with her three foster family dogs (also Cavaliers). She also is warm and friendly to other visitors both other dogs and humans that come to her house, including children. Nellie however has a history of not tolerating cats and therefore should not be placed in a home with cats.
Nellie has had dental problems and as a result has no teeth. At her wellness exam the doctor said that her gums were healthy. She does well “chewing” small treats. Nellie has between a grade 2-3 heart murmur but it doesn’t require medical attention. Nellie is mostly deaf due to an earlier ear infection; but, she is very attentive and responds well to hand gestures. If her foster parents point in a direction they want her to go in, she responds well.
Nellie has a healthy appetite and looks forward to mealtimes. She isn’t shy to let her foster mom know to hurry up and get her meal ready! This is one of the few times Nellie barks.
Nellie is a warm, loving soul that will make a wonderful addition a loving family who will be devoted to her.
