Bentley in Longmont, CO

JUST ADOPTED!

Bentley in his new home!

Here I am! My name is Bentley and just like the extraordinary car I am named after, I am designed and built for endurance. I am being cared for by people with a passion for knowing quality and for having exceptional vision. And, just like those gorgeous cars, I am here to help shape the world around me by being extremely handsome and fun. Sure, being named after a beautiful classic car may be a bit daunting for some, but since I am personality plus and really quite wonderful, I don’t find it to be a problem at all!

I came to foster care after my owner passed away. After some sadness due to the loss, I am now happy and excited to be getting a second chance to find a brand-new forever family! My birthday is January 2, 2017 so I am 7 years young. Because of my large frame that is somewhat bulldoggish, my foster mom affectionately calls me Bruiser. But enough about her craziness, let me tell you some more about me!

Belly rubs are at the top of my list, are second on my list and are third… need I go on?! I love early morning walks when there are no other dogs out to distract me and I enjoy saying “Good morning!” to the people neighbors – they give pretty good belly rubs! I definitely love other Cavaliers. My foster home has a lovely, older Cavalier sister and I love hanging out with her.

I enjoy a nice fenced-in backyard so I can chase birds and squirrels. Hanging out in the shade, laying on the cool grass, looking around at nature is quite enjoyable. I know several basic commands such as “Sit”, “Come”, and “Stay”. How fast I respond to these commands is mostly based on how good the treat is that you are holding. No, that’s not true, I absolutely enjoy any treat you care to give me as I am very, very food motivated. However, my favorite sort of command is of course, “Belly rub!” Not to change the subject but, surprisingly, I am actually a pretty good alert dog because I will bark at unknown people who come to the front door – solicitors beware! And I am proud to be perfectly housetrained.

All great days are spent with my foster mom. I lay at her feet when she is working. Anywhere she goes, I go. I wait at any door she goes out because I know she will be back soon to give me a – you guessed it, a belly rub! I am a devoted buddy and friend! Let’s see, what else is there about me that you should know? Meeting new people is fun. Car rides are fun. Getting a bath is fun – yes, really! Short walks are fun. Naps are fun – I really love a good, loud snoring session and have a natural talent for it! Mostly, I am just happy hanging out at home, being cared for, adored… and getting a good belly rub…or two…or three.

Ok, let’s talk about my general health. I am a large framed Cavalier who has been on a weight loss diet for most of the summer. In my life, I have been up to a hefty 42 pounds but through diet, exercise, healthy treats and those calorie-burning belly rubs, I now tip the scales at 35 pounds. My goal weight is 25 pounds and with the help of my forever family, I will get there!

While in foster care, I had a complete wellness exam along with a dental cleaning with six teeth extracted. I am current on all my vaccinations, negative for heart worms and am current with prevention meds. No heart murmur was detected! I am microchipped. My hearing is not very good.

I do have some mobility issues. My back right leg was injured and not treated 2 years ago. At this point, my leg is fairly stable due to scar tissue that has formed, but has atrophied some. X-rays of that leg show it has bone loss and cannot be surgically repaired. I have a limp and will be on pain management for the rest of my life. My left hip (the other back leg) is dysplastic, meaning the joint is not put together well. A continued weight loss plan along with long-term pain management will keep me moving along and happy. Two pain medications, along with a joint supplement help me get around easier. Annual blood tests will be needed to make sure I am staying healthy on my medications. I have kind of a hippity-hop walk followed by a sashay to the side that works well for short walks. Fortunately, my mobility issues do not affect my ability to enjoy those wonderful belly rubs!

I am looking forward to finding my new forever home.  If you would like to be considered, please fill out an online application if you have not already done so.
