JUST ADOPTED!

Here is Calypso with her new family…

Meet Calypso! This 5-month-old Tricolor Cavapoo puppy is PAWsitively adorable from any angle. Born 1/3/24, Calypso came to rescue when her beloved owner was unable to care for such a young pup.

Calypso has blossomed while in the foster home she shares with a calm Cavalier sibling. She is a perfect blend of both breeds. The Cavapoo is typically a small dog resulting from the combination of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. She gets her sweet disposition from the Cavalier and some of her intelligence from the Poodle. Calypso is smart, loveable, loyal and at times independent. One moment Calypso will snuggle close to you and then the next she is racing outside to investigate anything that catches her attention. Exploring the yard is this long-legged pup’s favorite pastime. Calypso will hunt, occasionally dig, and find things to entertain herself with, often barking at lizards or butterflies.

She has made a lot of progress using a doggy door to do her potty biz outside and is most successful when taken out on a regular basis. Calypso sleeps soundly at night knowing her ‘person’ is close by. She is fine left alone for a few hours with the company of another dog. Calypso would also do well as an only dog with someone home more often than not.

When in unfamiliar settings or meeting new people, Calypso is initially hesitant and barks. She is never aggressive, just wants to approach the situation on her terms and on her time. The quick movements of young children startle her so older dog savvy children would be fine in her new home.

Like any young pup, there is a lot to take into account when adopting one. Here are several things to consider:

*Puppies need consistent training and patience. When a puppy feels safe, secure and loved, the behaviors you want are easier to teach and become more consistent.

*Energy levels of a puppy vary throughout the day. Plenty of playtime, exercise, mental stimulation and socialization are vital to their growth.

*Routine checkups and vaccinations are essential to healthy development. Calypso is current on her vaccines, microchipped and will need to be spayed at 9 months of age.

*Patience while your new puppy matures will help them flourish as a new family member. An obedience class is an excellent way to strengthen the owner/dog bond and also provide structure.
