Ellie Mae in Raymore, MO

Say hello to sweet Ruby girl Ellie Mae. She came from a commercial breeding facility and was given to Cavalier Rescue USA by a Good Samaritan. Ellie is a friendly Cavalier, and her foster Mom says that Ellie is a Velcro dog with her. She follows her foster Mom around the house. She likes her foster Dad and other people she meets, but foster Mom is her favorite person. She will be a good companion for someone.

When Ellie came into rescue, she was examined by our vet and scheduled for spay surgery. Her heart is strong (no cardiac murmur), and her knees checked out fine (normal patella). She is up to date on vaccinations, has been spayed and microchipped, and is on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm preventatives. Ellie was born January 31, 2020, so is four years old. She is at a healthy weight of 18 pounds.

Ellie is comfortable with her foster dogs, except when foster Mom is holding her and the other dogs want attention. Ellie has become very attached to her foster Mom. She will growl under her breath at the other dogs if they try to get near her. Perhaps Ellie has discovered how wonderful it is to be someone’s pet, and she doesn’t want to share “her person” with another dog. Because of this, we think that Ellie might be happiest in a home where she is an only pet (or perhaps if the other dog is more submissive).

Ellie goes outside with the other dogs just fine, and she hasn’t had any accidents in the house or her crate since she’s been in foster care. She has become quite good on a leash when she goes on neighborhood walks with her foster sisters. During the walks, Ellie is interested in meeting new people and other animals. Sometimes she is spooked by unusually loud background noise from cars, trucks, etc., but she loves to discover new sights and smells on her walks.

When foster parents go out, Ellie goes in her crate with a doggie cookie and is content. She’s somewhat of a picky eater, and she eats without much enthusiasm. However, if she thinks another dog might be interested in her food, she will eat it more willingly.

Ellie Mae loves doggie beds, and she enjoys spending time curled up on the couch. She hasn’t shown any interest in toys yet. Sometimes she will bark at the TV. Maybe she’s never seen a TV before. Ellie will be happiest in a home where she receives much love and attention, and is not left alone too much during the day.
