Fern in Washington, D.C.

Fern is a sweet and resilient five-year-old girl, weighing in at a petite 14 pounds. She comes from a commercial breeder and is making remarkable progress in her foster home in Washington, D.C. Fern is making great strides toward house training. As long as she’s taken out regularly, she does really well.

Fern is a star on the leash, especially with her harness, enjoying new sights, smells, and meeting new people and dogs. While she can be a little nervous crossing doorways, she’s improving every day.

Although Fern can be timid when meeting new people, once she gets to know you, she’ll absolutely adore you. She loves snuggling, whether it’s on your lap or sleeping in bed with you.

Crates, however, are not her thing. Fern does great when left alone for short periods, around four hours, especially when she’s with her foster brothers, as they all nap together.

Fern loves helping her foster family with laundry—she happily carries any clothes she finds on the floor to her bed to lay on. She also gets the zoomies and is learning how to play with toys and chase after her brothers. She gets along with dogs of all shapes and sizes, but thrives best with calmer companions. While she hasn’t met any cats, her foster family believes that cats won’t be an issue.

Fern enjoys spending time on the patio basking in the sunshine, though she’s still warming up to grass. When it comes to treats, peanut butter is her absolute favorite. (Fern just loves trying out new snacks!)

Fern is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. She’s ready for her forever home. All she needs is love.
