Hazel in Federal Way, WA
Update 12-13-24: We’ve received several promising applications for Hazel and are not accepting more for now. Thank you!
Hi! I’m Hazel. My foster family also calls me Hazelnut, Nutter-butters, and Moonpie (cause I’m so sweet!). I haven’t met you yet, but I love you. I am the most loving pup ever. I want to be around people all the time. When I see new people, I quiver and whimper in excitement until they come pet me. When I went to the vet, I laid down, belly up in the lobby, waiting for someone to come give me belly rubs.
I love to give full body hugs by pressing my face and body into you so I can be as close as possible. During the day, I am very low-key and like to cuddle somewhere near humans and sleep. I do like to go on walks and I occasionally like to nuzzle my crinkle toys too.
I was found as a stray and later given to a good Samaritan after my owners were not found despite extensive efforts. I am housetrained, get along well with people of all ages, and know how to sit and lie down. I do tend to pull on the leash and need some work on that, but I MUST have daily walks or I get bored and start looking for things to do on my own (like eat my toys or try dashing out the door).
My foster family quickly noticed that just having access to their fenced yard wasn’t enough, but if they took me on a short daily walk and let me sniff everything, then I am perfectly well behaved and very calm in the house. I really love to meet new people and am excited to go out and about. I would like a home that enjoys walks around the block, where someone is home a lot (or can take me to work), and where I can sleep on the furniture.
I am great with kids of all ages, and I am also great with other dogs. We don’t know how I am around cats since I haven’t been exposed since coming into rescue, but my foster family thinks I would probably do fine with them.
Medically, I’m healthy, and the vet thinks I’m around 5 years old. I did need anal gland repair surgery the day after the rescue got me and a dental cleaning after that, but I’ve healed with no issues. I also had a lot of mats in my fur and ears that had to be cut out, so if want to adopt me, you have to be willing to brush my hair at least weekly so that doesn’t happen again because it was not fun! I might be slightly hard of hearing but my foster family isn’t sure if that’s because I don’t know my name well or because I can’t hear them. I definitely hear my crinkle toys and respond when my name is called in the backyard.
Hazel is ready to find her forever home. If you’re interested in adopting her and live within a 3-hour drive of her foster home, complete our online application (if you haven’t already), and then email rescue coordinator Melissa at happycavaliers04@gmail.com so she knows to consider your application.
