Henry in Brentwood, CA

ADOPTION PENDING!

Meet Henry in Brentwood, CA! If you are looking for a little buddy to go on adventures with you, look no further! Snuggly little Henry is 1.5 years old. He is on the smaller end of the scale for Cavaliers at around 14 lbs., with a flat, smooth, silky, tricolor coat that is still coming in.

Henry, recently returned from a two-week camping RV trip with his foster parents, furry foster brother and did great. To Henry, the whole world has become an adventure!

Henry had no concept of toys but once he figured out those strange objects were fascinating and exciting things to play with, he put all of his new-found puppy energy into chasing, tossing, shaking, and tug. His favorite activity (other than wrestling with his foster Cavalier brother) is rolling his ball under furniture for his foster mom to get out! That’s really exciting!

When Henry was rescued, he was a terrified and shy little guy, especially afraid of hands reaching out to him. He is learning that hands don’t hurt and very often offer treats and pets. He is still reactive to other strange dogs and causes a big ruckus if he thinks they might get too close. He will need training and patience to overcome this and become the friendly, sweet little dog Cavaliers are known and bred to be. He loves his foster mom and dad and is a “velcro dog” following them everywhere in the house. His favorite spot is to be snuggled in someone’s lap.

Henry is smart and has learned so much in his short time in a real home. He learns basic commands quickly and is extremely food and praise motivated so training should go quickly. On walks, we are learning to “stop pulling” and we believe he’ll get it but a save leash walker with training skills would be great. He is doing remarkably well with potty training as long as his people are vigilant about taking him outside every couple of hours, therefore we are looking for a home where you are retired or home all the time to cater to his needs.

We are not sure if Henry would do well as an only dog but we know for sure he’ll do great with a fur-brother or sister of similar size, who can be a good role model for him. He adores his foster Cavalier brother. He has zero tolerance to fleas and requires a full fenced yard.

He is getting more used to kids and would probably love a calm, responsible older human brother or sister once he gets to know them. Kids under teenager years would be too young for him, since he can be scared. A calm household would be fantastic. He hasn’t been exposed to cats, so we are not sure what his reaction would be to a feline companion.

When Henry arrived he was underweight and had resistant yeast infections in both ears. His ears were treated several times but may need some follow-up. He has healed nicely from his neuter, and is now at or close to his perfect weight of about 14 lbs. He is up-to-date with his vaccinations. He currently eats a healthy diet of Rawbble, Small Batch or Tuckers freeze-dried raw, which would be beneficial for his adoptive parents to continue in order to possibly avoid issues with future yeast infections.

Sweet Henry sleeps happily in his crate, but would much rather be snuggling on the big bed with his humans. He is good crated for short periods when his people have to run errands without him. Of course he’d rather go along on those errands when he can. He is an excellent traveler and usually is sound asleep for the journey.

Henry is a sensitive little soul who needs lots of love and gentle attention, as he comes out of his shell, gains more confidence and begins to blossom.
