This is Cooper. Cooper is a puppy mill survivor who came to Cavalier Rescue USA after having lived his whole life in a cage. He was dirty and matted, completely deaf from untreated ear infections, and with limited sight from untreated dry eye. His ears were so matted the vet had to shave them down just to get a look at them.
He came to us without a name so he became Cooper, and is thought to be about 7 years old. Despite his earlier years, he is such a happy go lucky little fellow that is the complete definition of love. He doesn’t let the deafness or limited sight hold him down and is so happy to be part of a loving family and gets along with everyone and all other dogs.
He has now been neutered, microchipped, and had a dental. Cooper will need an ointment (Optimmune) applied to his eyes twice a day, but this is no big deal and just takes seconds.
He is full of love for everyone and never meets a stranger, everyone is his best friend. He transitioned instantly into his foster home with his 3 foster sisters and made himself right at home, with his favorite place being on the couch with you while watching TV.
Cooper has developed the funniest little personality, he now has discovered a love of “treasures”. He will clean out the toy bin and take all the toys to his bed. He sneaks into his foster mom’s closet and steals her shoes to take to his place, he has been caught taking the silverware out of the dishwasher basket to hoard, he even takes her shoes off of her feet to proudly stash them away. He has become a collector of “treasures” but does not damage any of them, just collects them. If anything is missing….check his bed, it probably has found it’s way there.
Since he is most happy being with people, we would recommend a family who can spend a lot of the day with him. Due to his limited vision, he is a very cautious of going downstairs, he’s fine with going upstairs, but until he is used to the steps, he needs to be careful. He has also not had much experience with leash walking but we are working on that.
Cooper will be much missed by his foster family but will make some lucky people a delightful, sweet addition to their family.
