Update...Beau in OK

Just Adopted!

Update 9-3-17: Many of you have been following the progress that Beau has made in rescue. This is one terrific dog! We call him Bionic Beau, after having two knee surgeries, bilateral cataracts removed, and healing from a severe flea allergy.

This boy is tolerant, sweet, and fortunate! He has become much more attentive now that he can see and barks at things more when they move. He no longer bumps into furniture, walls or other dogs. His legs are still a bit stiff and will need gradual work to get him to learn to use the stairs and to take longer walks. He ambulates and runs well outside. He slips a bit on slick floors, so caution is needed.

Apart from his surgical needs, Beau is a healthy 6-year-old. He needs assistance to get on or off the couch or bed which are his two favorite places. He will stay where you put him for the most part, but will let you know when he needs to go out. He is house trained and has not had any accidents in foster care.

We appreciate and thank everyone who contributed to Beau’s care. We have some donors who are interested in meeting Beau and so we are not taking any new applications for him at this time.

Update 8-20-17: This wonderful Cavalier has had his operations and is recovering well. Our sincere gratitude to those of you who contributed to Beau's care. Donations covered $2190 of Beau's vet bills which totaled $6264, so if you are able to contribute towards this gap, we and Beau would be grateful. This has been a year of great support, but also extraordinary expenses with many dogs like sweet Beau. We will always take them in though, and get them the care they need!

Here is Beau now that he is recovering well...look for him to be available for adoption in about a month!

Original Post: This is Beau, a sweet 6-year-old boy who was surrendered by his owner due to Beau's skin allergies. It turned out to be a flea allergy and he is now flea-free and no longer scratching or biting and his hair is growing back in.

That was the easiest of his correctable problems. He has very bowed back legs with knees that need surgery so that he doesn’t have pain and can walk and run like a normal dog. He also is 100% blind in the right eye and 70% blind in his left eye, due to hereditary cataracts. This is very disorienting to the poor dog, but fixable.

Consults with the veterinarians have indicated that his knees can be surgically corrected and his eyes have an excellent prognosis for restored vision.

These procedures do cost a lot though and it will take approximately $5500 to do what is required.

Beau is still young and has a strong heart and loving demeanor. He is a perfect gentleman in the house and loves to be near his caregiver. He gets along well with other Cavaliers and people.

Due to his cataracts, he runs into obstacles when he is walking in shadows. He needs assistance to get up and down stairs and furniture currently, but that will change with your help.
