Donations Requested! Max in Olympia, WA

Update 10-31-17: Max had successful knee surgery a couple of weeks ago and his recovery is coming along nicely. His foster parents are doing an amazing job with his rehab, which includes stretching for mobility and short walks to build up strength. He seems to be feeling really good and is his happy, easy going self. We all appreciate your continued support!

Update 10-7-17: Max is going to be having knee surgery on the 18th. Wish him the best! He's certainly been a trooper.

Update 9-13-17: Max was able to have the surgery he needed to remove the needle he had ingested. Much appreciation to all who donated to help this pup! He came through the surgery just fine and should be okay to go through the next surgery he needs to fix his knee soon. We know this is a lot of care and resources for one dog, but truly, he is worth it and we are so happy he is able to get the care he needs.

Original post: Max is a sweet, loving boy who came into rescue when his elderly owner felt she was no longer able to care for him properly. Upon intake, it became clear that Max had several health issues which needed to be addressed.

Max was overweight and had a hard time getting around, due to a significant limp in his back right leg. Additionally, he was drinking large amounts of water. Upon veterinary evaluation, he was diagnosed with diabetes and a right knee luxated patella with multiple ligament tears. Of even more concern, it was discovered by x-ray that poor Max has a sewing needle inside him! At some point, he must have swallowed his owner’s mending and the needle made its way almost all the way through him. It is now outside his colon and must be removed to ensure it does not puncture other organs and cause a deadly infection.

Veterinary specialists evaluated Max and we developed a treatment plan, starting with surgery to remove the sewing needle. Next, Max will need to have have surgery on his right knee.

While Max has lost several pounds, this darling boy is in considerable pain and has significant difficulty getting around due to his knee. It is heartbreaking when he whines in pain and yelps when being lifted for a trip up/down the stairs. We are eager to get Max relief from his pain and to improve his mobility. Once he’s through all of his surgeries, he will be a dedicated, loving companion for a very lucky family.

Unfortunately, the costs to get Max all of the specialized care he needs is estimated between $4200-5000. Please help Max if you can by making a donation to his fund.

Donations are tax deductible and can be made by clicking the Donate button below or by mailing a check to Cavalier Rescue USA, c/o Carolyn Stigler, 1345 Eagle Run Dr., Sanibel, FL 33957.

We sincerely appreciate your support and look forward to updating you once he’s had his surgeries.

A special thanks to Mistie of Mistie Marie Photography for taking these lovely photos of Max.
