Lacey in Houston, TX
Howdy- my name is Lacey. I am a 2 year old female and I came to Cavalier Rescue USA with three other Cavaliers because of some problems in the family. I am a little timid at first, but I do love people, other dogs and my foster cat sibling does not bother me one bit. Even though I can be timid, noises do not bother me; vacuum cleaner, outside noises, hair dryers are all okay by me.
When I arrived in rescue, I had a lot to overcome. Unfortunately, I was loaded with parasites, dehydrated, had an ear and bladder infection. My foster mom thinks since I was not feeling my best, it made me a bit scared to potty outside. Everything was a bit sore, but I am feeling better now, and I have become much more reliable with my potty training. Sometimes I dawdle outside for potty time, I am a spaniel and I love to smell. I respond to “potty” and will go in tight circles right before #1. When it is time for #2, I move around very quickly and will even propel myself off the fence or side of the house. It is untraditional, but it is a clue that I am ready to relieve myself. I do prefer to use the bathroom in the mulch area outside, but I will go in the grass too.
I sleep all night in a cozy round doggie bed right by my foster mom. Sleeping up on the big bed would be swell, but my foster mom says I must wait until I am with my forever family. I am not a big chewer and have just started slowly play with a few toys. I do however love dirty laundry, I don’t want to rip it up, I just like to grab it very gently in my mouth and take it to my napping spot. My foster mom says it’s very endearing.
I also love to sit up on the couch with you, I just really love to be by my people. I especially love to be by my foster mom all the time, I think she hung the moon. She tells me that I will soon have my forever people that I will adore even more.
My foster family says I am a very chill lady, but I get very animated when I see my harness and leash. I love my walks! When I first arrived, I didn’t know how to walk on a leash, but my foster mom and I did click training and my foster siblings showed me the ropes. It is just the most fun thing! I walk with a loose leash and my morning walk is a great opportunity for me to do my daily #2. My morning walk ensures I remain successful with my potty training.
My mom laughs every mealtime. I am such a hearty eater and cannot wait to chow down. To work on my manners, my foster mom taught me to sit before I can have my meal. For dry food, I get my meals in a “snuff mat” to help me eat a bit slower too. My foster family says it’s also good for my mental stimulation, but all I know is that I love it. I was occasionally getting loose stools and ear infections, and I currently am on a hydrolyzed protein diet and avoid protein treats. So far, this new diet is working for me. I also get daily probiotics to continue to keep a calm tummy.
When my foster family leaves, I do well in a gated off area with options for doggie beds. I prefer to have a foster sibling in there with me though.
