Leonard in AZ

Update: Leonard has a visit scheduled to meet a potential new family so we are only taking backup applications for him for now. Thank you!

Leonard is a sweet boy that must be on someone’s lap most of the time. He was once loved and cared for but his mom passed away. Sometime after that, Leonard was found on a street in distress and crying because he was lost. A wonderful couple found him. They did all they could for him by shaving him down and removing hundreds of ticks. He was in rough shape but a vet appointment could not be arranged for almost a week. Then Cavalier Rescue USA came to pick him up.

At the animal hospital he had many tests since he had so many ticks imbedded in him. Thankfully, he was negative for all tick borne illnesses and heart worms. He was given an antibiotic shot and Doggy Benadryl. His ears were swollen shut due to the ticks. A soothing ear drop was especially made for him because the Otoscope could not be inserted into his very swollen ears. His skin was infected and scabby. A medicated shampoo was helpful in treating that issue.

With all that news – he was healthy and recoverable! When the medications started working Leonard became a different pup. He wasn’t itching any more and could relax. As his personality came out he is well behaved, never had accidents in the house, started playing with toys and the other dogs, and knows some commands. He knows his name and comes when called. He was neutered the first of August.

Leonard does not like being alone. He has separation anxiety and will cry and bark when the humans leave. If there are other dogs he seems more relaxed and only cries for a few minutes. Another dog or dogs should help him in his forever home. Although Leonard does not like the crate, when riding in the car he will cry and fuss. As soon as he is taken out, he is fine with human interaction.

It is difficult not to fall-in love with this boy. He is sweet, cuddles, and loves his foster family. Although he is a “Velcro Pup” he likes to sleep in a dog bed with his doggy siblings. He is excited to see you in the morning and gets very playful.

Leonard is a champ at getting baths and loves to be brushed. He will lay on your lap and be brushed for a long time.
