Max in Murphy, TX
Here is Max with his new mom…
Max is a sweet tricolor boy looking for his forever home. He was born on January 22, 2022, and came into our care from a breeder. He spent his three years with the sole purpose of being a breeder. Additionally, he had poor vision due to congenital cataracts so was a bit timid, but has really come out of his shell since he had cataract surgery. The surgery has helped Max gain confidence, and he is eager-to-please.
Max wants to be near his people at all times, but plays well with other dogs. He has really blossomed, and fits into his foster home easily. Max is a cuddler, and loves a lap and to be petted. He rides well in the car. Max learned leash walking quickly, and loves long walks. He whines with excitement when he sees his harness and leash.
Max has learned the joy of toys and treats and is food motivated. Max is at his ideal weight at 16 pounds, and his appetite is good. He is not a picky eater. He eats very fast and a slow-eating-bowl has helped him.
Max is up to date on all vaccinations, was neutered, and microchipped.
When Max came into rescue, he had cataracts in both eyes. We wanted to do surgery on both eyes, but due to a detached retina in his right eye we could not do surgery on that eye. It does not cause him pain. His left eye had a cataract surgery and it went wonderfully. He can now see very well out of his left eye and is doing GREAT! Max does get three daily eye drops that will need to be continued. Two of them are prescription, and one is over the counter. The three drops average about $20.00 a month total. They can be managed by the adopters regular vet. (His eye vet in the Dallas area has also said he will do one complimentary appointment with his new owner.) Other than his eyes, Max has clean bill of health.
Max has learned to go potty outside, and learned very quickly to use a doggy door. He sleeps well at night, but does not want to be in a crate. He loves napping most of the day on the couch.
Max would be fine with older kids. He has not yet been tested with cats but gets along with other dogs. He would be fine with or without other dogs. Max has some separation anxiety, so the best scenario would be someone who can stay home with him during the day. Max is not much of a barker.
