Maxwell in Lake Forest, CA

JUST ADOPTED!

Here is Maxwell with his new family…

Meet Maxwell! This distinguished approximately 7-year-old Tricolor gentleman found himself seeking a new home when his owner became unable to care for him. When relatives knew they could not adequately provide for his future needs they reached out to rescue.

To know Maxwell is to love him. He is your typical Velcro Cavalier, always wanting to be near a human or canine buddy. Maxwell has been fostered in a home with several other dogs, ranging in size from another Cavalier, a Golden Retriever, and even a Great Dane. Maxwell gets along with all of them. It’s the cats that he is not fond of and will chase them relentlessly! Maxwell does enjoy the goings-on of the family teenagers and their friends who always find time to give him lots of attention.

While in rescue, Maxwell was neutered, brought up to date on his vaccines and had a dental resulting in eleven extractions. Based on his zest for life, you’d never know that Maxwell has been diagnosed with a Grade 5/6 heart murmur. He underwent a complete cardiology exam and started on twice daily Vetmedin to help slow the heart disease progression. The cost of this medication is approximately $100 every 6 weeks. Maxwell will need to have his heart rechecked in about 6 – 7 months to reassess medication and verify if his heart is stable.

Maxwell’s favorite time of the day is mealtime. He eats out of a slow feeder bowl to help control his voracious appetite. He is currently at his ideal weight and keeping him there will benefit his health long term. Since he is so food motivated, treats will assist with learning routines and expected behaviors in his new home.

Maxwell is a major snuggler who enjoys curling up with his canine friends for a good night’s sleep. Potty training is a work in progress and has improved greatly when kept on a consistent schedule. He is taken out first thing in the morning, every few hours during the day and then again before bedtime. Maxwell enjoys short walks that allow him to sniff and learn everything that is happening in the neighborhood.

The consummate companion, Maxwell is looking for a loving forever family that will let him chill, offer lots of daily belly rubs and appreciate his easygoing nature. He is an excellent errand buddy, does well in the car and enjoys meeting new people.

Maxwell is pending adoption to an existing applicant who is a prior adopter.
