Melody in Buckley, WA

Melody is a 1-year-old Black & Tan Cavalier (born 4-17-2023) that came into rescue as an owner surrender. The previous owner could no longer care for sweet Melody due to her own health issues and cognitive decline. Melody has the sweetest temperament and is very affectionate. She loves meeting new people and other dogs and gets very excited about it on walks. She thoroughly enjoys her walks and does well on the leash. We think she would get along great with gentle older children as well.

Melody loves attention and is happy to receive it from anyone. We feel Melody would really thrive in a home that could provide her with constant interaction, companionship, and patience. Another dog companion would also be helpful as we think she has a little bit of separation anxiety. Melody has done very well with her Cavalier foster brother and sisters. She has learned much from them, happily playing and napping together. We do not know if she gets along with cats.

Melody is still very much a puppy, and in her previous home she didn’t receive very much training and spent a lot of time in her crate with little interaction. We are still working on potty training, responding to her name, learning what is acceptable to chew on, and some basic obedience commands.

She has mastered the “sit” and “crate” command but only if treats are involved. Since she is not fully up to speed on potty training, she is crated if we leave for longer periods of time (1-2 hours at most). She happily goes in and accepts her treats. Melody will need plenty of opportunities to go outside to be successful with potty training. She had some negative human interactions in her previous home and was fearful in certain situations upon coming into rescue, but she has blossomed and will continue to do so with more loving interactions and positive reinforcement training.

Melody is on the larger side for a Cavalier at 24 pounds. She is at her ideal weight and is very solid in structure. She is a very healthy pup but will need an umbilical hernia repair while under anesthesia at a future dental cleaning. Like most Cavaliers, she has a very hearty appetite and is very food driven.

Melody is excellent in the car and enjoys going for car rides. She is inquisitive about her surroundings and being outside is new to her. She enjoys exploring the fenced yard and chasing bugs, especially butterflies!

Melody is very playful and is enthusiastic about playing ball. She loves to have a good play session after meals and then curls up in your lap for snuggles and a nap. She is a very sound sleeper! Melody is a master snuggler and is happiest when curled up in your lap or next to you. She loves everyone she meets and everyone she meets loves her!
