Millie Mae in Raymore, MO

Say hello to Millie Mae – originally from a commercial breeder, she was acquired by a Good Samaritan and released to Cavalier Rescue USA. Millie is 4-years-old born 8/21/2020.

Sweet Millie is adjusting well in her foster home. She likes to snuggle with her foster mom on the couch or on foster Dad’s lap in the recliner while watching TV. Cuddles and kisses are new to Millie, but she’s enjoying this affectionate interaction with humans. At bedtime, she’s quiet and sleeps through the night.

Millie has been spayed and had a dental cleaning. Her teeth were in bad shape – they had to pull 30 teeth and most of those just fell out. She only has ten teeth left, but she still has her canines and a couple of back molars. She has recovered from her spay surgery and is now eating regular dog food with no issues. Millie’s heart is good (no cardiac murmur), and her knees checked out fine (normal patella). She weighs 19 lbs, is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

Millie gets along great with her foster dog siblings, and she likes to be near her foster parents. Recently, she started playing with doggie toys. She doesn’t bark very much, except when she’s playing with a toy. She doesn’t know how to jump up on the couch but will use the little doggie stairs to get up there. Good news – she has overcome her fear of crossing the door threshold from the sunroom to the patio so foster parents no longer need to pick her up to go outside. She is making progress!

She hasn’t had any accidents in the house or her crate. She does have one bad habit – she sometimes eats her own poop. She probably developed this habit in her previous environment. As a deterrent, we may try a supplement added to her food.

Walking on a leash is still new to Millie. She is hesitant and scared – but she will walk, and she is gradually getting more comfortable with this. With patience and praise, she’ll get there. Millie is a gentle, sweet, lovable dog. She will make someone a very good family pet.
