Nana and Louie in Whittier, CA

Double the paws, double the love!

Nana and Louie are three-year-old bonded littermates born December 8, 2021. These perfectly paired Blenheim Cavaliers found their way into rescue due to their previous owners change in circumstances. As siblings, they share an inseparable connection, providing each other with companionship and comfort.

Like most Cavaliers, Nana and Louie have expressive eyes, silky coats, and unwavering devotion. Both of them are typical Velcro pups, always wanting to know where their humans are. Nana has the cutest freckles and weighs eighteen pounds, and handsome Louie weighs nineteen pounds.

Due to a lack of socialization when they were puppies, both dogs experience varying degrees of anxiety. Nana is the more confident of the two. With no medical concerns, she provides a stabilizing presence for Louie.

Nana is affectionate, often seeking cuddles and attention. She shares a strong bond with her brother simply by being at his side. She enjoys playing with toys and will eagerly chase them when tossed.

Louie, the more anxious and sensitive of the two is making progress settling into a structured routine. Louie’s apprehension is particularly heightened when faced with new people and situations.

This nervous energy often manifests in barking, a behavior that has been improving with a daily dose of Fluoxetine, an anti-anxiety medication. With positive reinforcement and patience, Louie will continue to gain confidence. He has a grade 2/6 heart murmur and no medication is currently needed, but that will need monitoring.

Their foster Mom has seen a slow, steady improvement in Nana and Louie’s ability to adapt to the comings and goings of household life. The pair share a large crate which serves as a safe space. They had a few potty accidents when first arriving into foster care, but now that they have a consistent schedule and are let out every few hours, their housetraining is reliable. They are also proficient using potty pads overnight and throughout the day as needed when left alone.

Nana and Louie are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and have been spayed/neutered.

Their ideal home would be with an experienced dog owner that has a calm environment with low alone hours to help them adjust one last time and feel secure. They are perfect work from home office mates.

Due to their anxiety, a family with small children will not be considered. Both pups also demonstrate a high prey drive so their new home needs to be without cats, chickens or other small animals. A fenced yard where Nana and Louie can safely explore and play is a must. While they are not yet ready to venture out to busy public spaces like restaurant patios, with continued confidence-building guidance, they can get there.

Their new family needs to be patient, and aware that it will take time for them to adjust to a new environment. Enlisting a professional trainer (or someone in the household who is skilled in canine behavior training) is recommended to further guide Nana and Louie towards reaching their full potential.
