It’s a bird! It’s a squirrel! It’s a game! It is Ruben the Wonder Pup!

Ruben is an almost-one-year-old, male, Cavalier King Charles Spaniel born 9/20/23. He has lustrous, dark eyes and a lush, Ruby coat. He came to rescue because of Littermate Syndrome. His brother and Ruben did not get along, and it was unfair to keep them together. Cavalier Rescue USA was contacted to help.

Ruben loves being outdoors, investigating under every bush and looking up to the sky for every little movement. He loves to run and play and explore outdoors (and indoors). He needs this as a puppy, so a securely fenced-in yard will be a must for him. Additionally, he enjoys daily walks with his foster mom.

Ruben has the sweetest disposition. He will be your loyal and best friend. He loves to be with his special person, to snuggle as close as possible and look adoringly up into their eyes. He also loves playing ball and is all about the chase. He will drop the ball at your feet for another round of fetch. He is house trained, but needs a regularly monitored schedule. Ruben has been neutered and is up to date on immunizations and flea and tick preventatives. He weighs 17 lbs and is a healthy boy.

He knows some basic commands, sit, stay and come, but will require further training to properly learn leash-walking techniques. Ruben is reactive to other dogs. He needs to be in a household where he is the only dog. His new owner should be committed to helping him overcome this. His foster mom has been working on his outdoor manners, but further training will be required. For safety reasons, and because of his excitement at meeting people, Ruben will not be placed in a household with young children (under the age of 6). Older children are fine. He has not been tested around cats.

Ruben is a people lover and people pleaser. His playfulness and affection are truly endearing. He is happiest when with his special person and is truly a delight to have around.
