Rusty and Riley in Weymouth, MA
Meet R & R brothers, Rusty and Riley! These two, bonded brothers are six years old. They came into rescue after their owner moved to assisted living.
Rusty is the more confident of the two. He is a good eater, but sometimes has to be reminded not to take his brother’s food. Rusty loves his belly rubs and loves to play with his toys. He is crate trained, and is very comfortable going into his crate for bedtime. Rusty weighs 37 pounds, but is at a perfect weight for his frame.
Riley is the more clingy of the two brothers. He likes to sit either on or beside you, or at the very least, very close to you! Riley will lick his brother’s face when they are resting, with Rusty very agreeable to the cleaning. Riley weighs 35 pounds, and like his brother, a perfect weight. He, too, will go into his crate when it’s time to sleep.
The boys love to run around the yard and go on a sniffing expedition. They have a high prey drive and love to chase. They are very fast and would require a fenced-in yard. The boys have been working hard on walking and not pulling on their leashes. They are making progress with a trainer coming to the house, and have responded well to positive reinforcement. They do bark when someone comes into the house, but with tails wagging, they will stop after they have sized up the human.
Although they do enjoy the outdoors, the boys, in true Cavalier fashion, love human contact and interaction. They are lap dogs for sure! They would do best with someone home for much of the day. It is not clear how they would do with cats in the house because of their high prey drive. They have also not been exposed to children. They would probably like children, as they are very people-oriented. (Older, responsible children would be best.) A fenced in yard with a secure gate is a must for their safety. They do well in the car, but should be restrained with a harness. They do not need to be crated when left alone. Both boys are house trained and have had zero accidents in the house.
The boys have both been neutered, and are up-to-date on immunizations and preventatives. They are both heart clear and healthy!
