Nana and Louie in Whittier, CA

Here are Nana and Louie with their new family…

Double the paws, double the love!

Nana and Louie are three-year-old bonded littermates born December 8, 2021. These perfectly paired Blenheim Cavaliers found their way into rescue due to their previous owners change in circumstances. As siblings, they share an inseparable connection, providing each other with companionship and comfort.

Like most Cavaliers, Nana and Louie have expressive eyes, silky coats, and unwavering devotion. Both of them are typical Velcro pups, always wanting to know where their humans are. Nana has the cutest freckles and weighs eighteen pounds, and handsome Louie weighs nineteen pounds.

Due to a lack of socialization when they were puppies, both dogs experience varying degrees of anxiety. Nana is the more confident of the two. With no medical concerns, she provides a stabilizing presence for Louie.

Nana is affectionate, often seeking cuddles and attention. She shares a strong bond with her brother simply by being at his side. She enjoys playing with toys and will eagerly chase them when tossed.

Louie, the more anxious and sensitive of the two is making progress settling into a structured routine. Louie’s apprehension is particularly heightened when faced with new people and situations.

This nervous energy often manifests in barking, a behavior that has been improving with a daily dose of Fluoxetine, an anti-anxiety medication. With positive reinforcement and patience, Louie will continue to gain confidence. He has a grade 2/6 heart murmur and no medication is currently needed, but that will need monitoring.

Their foster Mom has seen a slow, steady improvement in Nana and Louie’s ability to adapt to the comings and goings of household life. The pair share a large crate which serves as a safe space. They had a few potty accidents when first arriving into foster care, but now that they have a consistent schedule and are let out every few hours, their housetraining is reliable. They are also proficient using potty pads overnight and throughout the day as needed when left alone.

Nana and Louie are fully vaccinated, microchipped, and have been spayed/neutered.

Their ideal home would be with an experienced dog owner that has a calm environment with low alone hours to help them adjust one last time and feel secure. They are perfect work from home office mates.

Due to their anxiety, a family with small children will not be considered. Both pups also demonstrate a high prey drive so their new home needs to be without cats, chickens or other small animals. A fenced yard where Nana and Louie can safely explore and play is a must. While they are not yet ready to venture out to busy public spaces like restaurant patios, with continued confidence-building guidance, they can get there.

Their new family needs to be patient, and aware that it will take time for them to adjust to a new environment. Enlisting a professional trainer (or someone in the household who is skilled in canine behavior training) is recommended to further guide Nana and Louie towards reaching their full potential.

If you are located within a reasonable drive to Whittier, and feel you can provide Louie and Nana with the loving, calm home they deserve, you will be rewarded with double the love and companionship. Lizzy in Tulsa, OK

Hello! My name is Lizzy and I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I’m an 8-year-old Blenheim Cavalier and everyone I meet says I’m a sweetie! My last wonderful owners have both developed health issues and were very sad but asked that Cavalier Rescue USA find me another great home.

I love a soft couch or warm lap to snuggle up to when I nap. I love to sleep! I also like to follow you everywhere you go, including errands and road trips. I’m shy at first but lots of head scratches and chest rubs let me know you are a kind compassionate human. I love to meet other dogs my size and those who aren’t too bossy or rowdy. Just hold me close and let me sniff the new pup and I’ll be fine. Little children who are nice to me are great and they love when I give them kisses on their hands…especially if it smells like peanut butter or leftover lunch.

I like to take walks around the neighborhood on the sidewalk.  I am very well behaved and stay close to you without pulling. I’m a little hard of hearing but a few hand claps will get my attention. Gestures are welcome when showing me what to do next. My foster dad combs me every day and I love it because it feels so good! I am cooperative with grooming, nail trims and paw pad shaving. I am house trained and know how to use a dog door. My foster Daddy takes me outside every few hours and I’ll “get busy” as he says, and I know what to do. When I’m done, I’ll meet you at the door with a smile! Give me a small treat and a “good girl” and I’m ready to snuggle! I am a quiet girl but will bark at a horse on TV! I don’t rough house inside or chew on things. That could be because I had a dental and had to have the rest of my few remaining teeth extracted.

I am up to date with my vaccinations and heartworm, flea/tick preventatives, and I am microchipped. I am slightly overweight for my size but have lost a pound since I’ve been in my foster home. I do have a heart murmur and take daily medication to help me. My vet records include a lot of information and testing to know just what needs to be done to give me my best life. I have been very well taken care of. Overall, I am a cute, sweet loving girl who is in decent health to live a long life if taken care of.

Daisy in Overland Park, KS

Here is Daisy with her new family…

Say hello to Daisy – originally from a commercial breeder, she was acquired by a Good Samaritan and released to Cavalier Rescue USA. Initially very timid and shy, she’s coming out of her shell in her foster home. Daisy is getting familiar and comfortable with her foster parents, though she’s still a bit wary of strangers.

When Daisy came to us, she did not know how to walk on a leash. Foster mom had to wait until Daisy trusted her before she could put a leash on her. Now she goes on short walks with her foster parents. She still startles easily, so foster mom stops a few times during the walk just to praise her. She’s getting better and slowly getting used to this new activity. Foster mom is really good about using positive reinforcement, establishing routines, and building trust – and it’s working! Daisy is loving the life of being a house pet.

At first, Daisy would not get in a doggie bed, and now she likes it. She wouldn’t get on the couch, either – but now she gets up there by herself. She’s happy to just snuggle in and watch TV or snooze the day away. Daisy is still a bit skittish but improving. After she gets to know you, she shows her easy-going and gentle temperament. She thumps her tail when her foster mom walks by, and she sits by her foster parents in the evening. If her foster mom goes out for a bit, Daisy greets her with full body wiggles when she returns. It takes time for her to warm up… but once she does, she’s very loving and sweet.

Daisy gets along great with her foster brother Rocky. She lies beside him on the floor, and she often lays her head on his back to rest. She follows him when they go outside, and she loves to run around in the backyard. Daisy is generally quiet, but recently she started barking at squirrels when she’s outside. She hasn’t had any accidents in the house or her crate – perhaps having another dog around helps to show her the ropes. Although she appears to be potty trained, she should be supervised in her new home until she settles in and learns the new routine. Her foster parents also have a young cat, and Daisy likes Kitty. She gently sniffs him and lets Kitty groom her.

Daisy has been spayed and had a dental cleaning. She has recovered from her spay surgery and is doing well. Her heart is good (no cardiac murmur), and her knees checked out fine (normal patella). Daisy is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and is current on monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventative. Daisy is a gentle, sweet, lovable girl with the most expressive brown eyes. She will make someone a very good family pet.

Daisy is being fostered in Overland Park, KS. Marco in Dillsburg, PA

If you are looking for the consummate companion, look no further! Marco is an approximately five to six year old male Blenhiem Cavalier.

Before coming to rescue, Marco was used for breeding on a Lancaster County Farm, but we don’t know much about his past. Marco adjusted quickly to his foster home. He absolutely loves being part of the family. He especially loves his foster “brothers.”

Like most Cavaliers, Marco is a Velcro dog. He needs to keep tabs on “Mom” at all times and is often found under foot. Marco is very amenable and doesn’t have a contrary bone in his body.

Marco is fairly small at 14 lbs and very healthy. He is missing a few teeth and takes his time to eat his food. His remaining teeth all look good.

Marco is not adventurous with running and jumping, but he will get the zoomies once in a while.

Marco wears a harness and walks well on a leash. He enjoys shorter walks, but could work up to longer ones. And, of course, he gets excited to meet other dogs on walks.

Marco adores his foster brothers and wants to go to a home with at least one other dog. He has anxiety if crated alone, but he enjoys being in a crate with his brothers. At night he sleeps on the floor next to the bed, but he would love to sleep in the bed if possible. Marco sleeps all night and isn’t disruptive.

Since his neuter surgery, Marco has had very few accidents in the house. He is content to go out every few hours, and his urge to mark has faded.

This warm-hearted boy deserves to have a peaceful home where he can provide companionship and love to his new family.

If you would like to adopt Marco, please complete our online application if you don’t already have one on file. Then email Melissa at cavalierrescueusapa@gmail.com so she knows you are interested.

Millie Mae in Raymore, MO

Here is the pup with her new family….

Say hello to Millie Mae – originally from a commercial breeder, she was acquired by a Good Samaritan and released to Cavalier Rescue USA. Millie is 4-years-old born 8/21/2020.

Sweet Millie is adjusting well in her foster home. She likes to snuggle with her foster mom on the couch or on foster Dad’s lap in the recliner while watching TV. Cuddles and kisses are new to Millie, but she’s enjoying this affectionate interaction with humans. At bedtime, she’s quiet and sleeps through the night.

Millie has been spayed and had a dental cleaning. Her teeth were in bad shape – they had to pull 30 teeth and most of those just fell out. She only has ten teeth left, but she still has her canines and a couple of back molars. She has recovered from her spay surgery and is now eating regular dog food with no issues. Millie’s heart is good (no cardiac murmur), and her knees checked out fine (normal patella). She weighs 19 lbs, is microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and is on monthly flea/tick/heartworm preventative.

Millie gets along great with her foster dog siblings, and she likes to be near her foster parents. Recently, she started playing with doggie toys. She doesn’t bark very much, except when she’s playing with a toy. She doesn’t know how to jump up on the couch but will use the little doggie stairs to get up there. Good news – she has overcome her fear of crossing the door threshold from the sunroom to the patio so foster parents no longer need to pick her up to go outside. She is making progress!

She hasn’t had any accidents in the house or her crate. She does have one bad habit – she sometimes eats her own poop. She probably developed this habit in her previous environment. As a deterrent, we may try a supplement added to her food.

Walking on a leash is still new to Millie. She is hesitant and scared – but she will walk, and she is gradually getting more comfortable with this. With patience and praise, she’ll get there. Millie is a gentle, sweet, lovable dog. She will make someone a very good family pet.

Dixie and Lily in Johnson City, TN

Here are a couple of photos of the pups with their new family…

Dixie and Lily are a very bonded pair that need to be adopted together. Dixie is 4-years-old and Lily is 3-years old. They came into rescue from an elderly couple, after the wife passed and the husband fell ill. They were badly matted but have darling new fur-do’s.

Dixie weighs 34lbs and Lily weighs 32lbs. They could both lose some weight. Lily needs help getting on the couch. They are loving and cuddly who want to be in your lap. Dixie is a notorious seat stealer. If someone is in a chair she likes she is likely to climb up and become a nice neck and head rest. They certainly live up to a Cavalier‘s job of keeping you warm and providing support!

Dixie and Lily are curious, happy-go-lucky Cavaliers and good buddies. They love romping through the yard, chasing butterflies and birds. Lily likes to play with other dogs and loves plush toys, often carrying her favorite one around with her most of the day.

They are very sweet and do well with people of all ages. They greet humans by barking and Dixie will stand on her hind legs and place her front legs on the people.  Dixie likes to get tissues and eat them. She has the ability to get into trash cans so they should be out of reach. A little redirection and training could help them with these habits. Lily and Dixie ride in a car and walk on a leash wonderfully.

Dixie and Lily were brought up-to-date in vaccines and preventatives while in rescue. Lily does not like to jump but a vet check while in rescue and previous owners vet assessment reveal no known cause but possibly weight. Lily is on a supplement for her joints.

They both love to be with their humans and follow them room to room, especially the kitchen. They are both smart and quick to pick up on things.

If you want a loyal companion who loves cuddles, please make sure you have an application submitted and email Liz Nigh at lizcavalierusa@gmail.com to let her know of your interest.
