Eddie in Reno, NV

Here is Eddie with his new mom…

Eddie is a two-year-old, extremely handsome Blenheim boy. He came into rescue from a breeder release, and lived in a pen with several other dogs and little human socialization. He was very timid and shy because he has never been around people. Eddie has come a long way during the short time he has been in rescue.

Eddie now loves to jump on the couch and lay next to you while you rub his ears. He will follow you everywhere, never letting you out of his sight. He is trying so hard to trust people, but it will take him some time. Once he learns to trust, he will be a classic Velcro Cavalier. It has been so heart-warming watching Eddie see and do things he has never done before. He keeps looking at dog toys but isn’t quite yet sure what to do with them.

Eddie will need someone willing to bond with him, and show him lots of love. He cuddles with his Cavalier foster brother and gets along with all dogs. Eddie hasn’t been kid or cat tested.

Eddie likes walks, but is still learning to walk on a leash. Eddie is crate trained. He goes to bed in his crate, and sleeps through the night. (It is likely, however, that Eddie would much rather be in the big bed with his people.) He loves going outside to explore the yard and to meet the neighbors.

Eddie has been neutered and is up to date on shots. He is heart clear and has sparkling white teeth. His left eye has dry eye and will need drops twice a day, probably for life. He is a sturdy, healthy, big Cavalier boy. He weighs in at 22.7 pounds. (There is no fat on this boy, he is just a solid guy.) He consistently knows to go outside to potty. Eddie likes running around outside, so he needs a completely fenced backyard.

Eddie needs someone with dog experience, and who has time to socialize him and show him how to trust people. He is afraid of loud noises and doesn’t like to be chased. Once he trusts, he is a little lover. His safe places are his crate and a blanket on the couch. Eddie has potential to be a great little hiking buddy and companion. He just needs someone to bring out the love he has to give.

Rosie in Kenmore, WA

Rosie is a 1-year-old female tricolor Cavalier with a happy and active temperament. She absolutely loves to play fetch and will happily play until your arm is tired. Once she’s tired, she wants to sit on your lap and have a nice cuddly nap. She loves every person she meets! She plays well with the children in her foster home (10 and 12 years old) and knows how to drop her toy to play fetch.

She came to Cavalier Rescue USA as an owner surrender due to neurological symptoms of occasional yelping. She has been presumptively diagnosed with caudal occipital malformation syndrome (COMS) and syringomyelia (SM) by our trusted neurologist based on her symptoms, clinical signs, and breed predisposition. Since starting two medications (gabapentin and omeprazole), she is doing very well and her symptoms are almost entirely gone! She’s otherwise a healthy pup. She’s a smaller Cavalier at 14 lbs, and she’s been spayed and microchipped.

Rosie enjoys playing with small/similar sized dogs and would enjoy a companion, though she can be a little timid around larger dogs. She will also do well in a home where she’s the only one getting attention. She does ok with cats. Rosie is crate trained, although she doesn’t like to be crated at night. She’s had some basic training and knows sit, down, and leave it. She’s mostly housetrained but needs reminders to go potty outside to avoid accidents.

She has separation anxiety which worsens when she’s allowed to be near the door while you leave. We suggest crating any time you plan to go outside without her and working with her to become less anxious around doors. Her anxiety is much lower in the crate. She has gotten better with some work but needs to continue to work towards feeling safe when her people go outside without her.

Rosie is a busy girl and needs an active household where she can play fetch, go on adventures and take long walks. This will also help prevent boredom and her finding naughty ways to keep herself entertained. For Rosie’s presumed COMS and SM, she will need to continue to see the neurologist at least yearly. Her new family will need to be committed to lifelong medications to help manage her symptoms.

Rocky and Bailey in Maricopa, AZ

Here are the pups with their new family…

Meet Rocky Road Ice Cream and Miss Bailey, an adorable, bonded pair who came into rescue when their owners could no longer care for them. Rocky is 5 years old (born 03/22/2019) and Bailey is 4 years old (born 03/16/2020).

This well-behaved duo are anxious to please and affectionately follow their foster parents everywhere. They are both extremely sweet and loving, always looking for the next opportunity to cuddle. Rocky and Bailey are currently living with three other Cavaliers and seamlessly adjusted to their foster family.

Both dogs are neutered/spayed, up to date on vaccines, current dental work, micro-chipped, and are excellent walking on the leash. Bailey weighs 25 lbs and Rocky weighs 27 lbs. They are potty-trained and can be left alone for short periods of time. Both dogs sleep all night long, and wait for their parents to get up.

Bailey’s favorite activity is going on walks. She becomes very excited and vocal when she senses it’s time to go!

Rocky sings when he wakes up in the morning, before going outside and getting his treat! He also is happy and sings when his owners return home after being gone.

Bailey tends to be a bit shy, but with encouragement, she will enthusiastically jump on your lap for cuddles.

Rocky is a bit more outgoing, and also loves to snuggle and sleep with you on your lap. Both dogs will make a wonderful addition to a loving family.

Dougie in Liberty Lake, WA

Here’s a picture of Dougie with his new family…

Hi, my name is Dougie, but don’t let my baby name fool you, I’m a big boy! I came into rescue after my mom passed away and my dad didn’t want for me to be boarded while he traveled for work two weeks a month. My foster mom says I am a “chunky monkey” because I came to her at 25 lbs and I like to eat all the time, so she’s using portion control to slowly reduce my weight since the vet recommends I lose 5-6 lbs. Other than needing to lose a little weight, the vet says I am 100% healthy and ready for whatever adventures come my way.

I am almost 2 years old, so I’m still a teenager and I love to play! I love my toys and my balls and will play lots of fetch. My foster dad is working to teach me to “drop it.” I’m pretty smart so I think I will learn this quickly. I say I’m pretty smart because of all the things I know how to do. First, I am fully potty trained and know how to use a doggie door.

Second, I know lots of commands: sit, stay, down, lay down and no. I’m also crate trained when traveling and to sleep at night, but I wouldn’t mind a family that lets me sleep on the big soft bed with them. And guess what, I don’t bark – that’s right I am a chill dude with no attitude. In fact, even when the doorbell rings, I will run to the door to greet the guests, but no barks from me.

I have two foster fur-sisters and I LOVE to play with them and let them chase me around. When I arrived, I immediately showed them that I was submissive and they could rule the roost. My foster sibs and I get along great–we all eat in the same room, share our toys and share my foster mom’s great big comfy couch. But because I am chunky, I usually only play for short spurts, about 10-15 minutes or so, and then I want a big drink and a short nap, but then I am ready for play again. I also am slow and intentional using stairs, probably also because I’m chunky (sigh!), so my ideal home would not require frequent use of stairs initially.

I get so excited when my foster parents harness me up to go on car rides, but once in the car I am super chill. What I love most though is being outside with my foster fur-sisters in the big, fenced yard where we run the fence line, chase balls and… Yup, I admit it, we chase the wild bunnies and quail that come into the yard (so you probably don’t want to have chickens or kittens because I will go crazy chasing them).

I also like going on walks, smelling the new smells, and walking beside my foster sister. I am super well behaved on a leash–I don’t pull and I don’t react to other dogs or the sound of cars going by. I think I’m so good on short walks because it’s designated “me” time and I love the one-on-one attention from my fosters. But I don’t like to go potty on a leash and I will hold it for a long time, so a fenced yard where I can take the time to do my business in my own chosen location and on my own schedule is a must.

Okay, I will admit it, I am a very affectionate cuddle bug who wants to be right next to you all the time. Belly rubs and under chin scratches are my FAVORITE. In the evening, there is nothing better than laying on the couch sharing body heat with you. Even though I can be left alone for very short periods, I really need to be in a home with a fur-brother or sister to keep me company if my human leaves the house, and a human who is home most days. Being alone is not my cup of tea!

Look at my face, don’t you think I am just the most handsome dude?

Doug’s foster mom here: We’ve tried to expose him to different things to get a good sense of his temperament and wants and needs in a new home. We’ve learned he doesn’t really understand children and is fearful of younger ones. Therefore, an adult-only home is best for him. Also, while Doug is a youngster, he isn’t interested in long walks, hiking, etc. Instead, he likes to play fetch and be chased by his fur-sister. So, a home where he can get his exercise with indoor play and daily racing with another dog in a fenced backyard is ideal. Additionally, he has some anxiety when left completely alone, so a companion dog for those times his family has to be away is important. Whichever family gets this pup is going to be extremely lucky and truly loved by him!
