Dudley and Oliver in Sacramento, CA

Here are Dudley and Oliver with their loving dad…

These handsome gentlemen are Dudley and Oliver, they are loving, bonded brothers that are from different litters. Oliver is 5 and Dudley is 7. They came to rescue when changes in the family meant little time for the pups and their family wanted a better life for the boys.

They know their basic commands and walk well on a leash and really enjoy their daily walks. They are food driven Cavalier chowhounds and love treats. They get along well with the resident female Cavalier in their foster home and all other dogs & people that they meet. They like to ride in the car. They are house trained, though Oliver is not always good at letting you know when he needs to go out, so you need to take him out on a regular basis.

They will entertain you with their playfulness and companionship. They like to play with balls and toys. They sleep quietly in a x-pen at night but would love to sleep on your big bed. They do bark when someone comes to the house, but they settle down quickly. They have not been cat tested.

Dudley is a lean, handsome Blenheim boy, with huge brown eyes, and a silky coat. He is confident, athletic and loves to play ball. He does like to mark his surroundings but only outside, never inside. He takes a while to warm up but once he does, he will be your faithful companion. He is an early riser. Oliver is on the stocky side (not overweight) with big brown eyes and wavy hair. He loves to be by your side always hoping a toy will be thrown his way. He is bit of a snorer. He wants to be close to his “person”.

They are both current on their vaccinations and have been neutered. They do have heart murmurs but only Dudley requires medication for now, they are otherwise healthy. Both weigh around 27 pounds, they aren’t fat just big boys!

Dudley and Oliver are looking for their forever home where they can be loved and in return, they will be your faithful companions. If you are interested and live within a reasonable drive of their foster home, please complete the on-line application and send an email to our Northern California Coordinator, Sarah Knudsen at sayrahk@gmail.com and let her know you are interested in Dudley and Oliver.

Hannah in Deering, NH

Here is Hannah with her new mom…

Cavalier Rescue USA is seeking a new manager to oversee Project Hannah. This project focuses on helping a sweet female Cavalier who is recovering from a traumatic life as a breeder dog. Upon entering foster care, Hannah feared everyone and everything, often hiding head-first into corners and cushions, avoiding eye contact, and cowering when approached. We are happy to report that she has made astonishing progress under temporary project management; however, we are now looking for someone interested in a permanent position. Job qualifications include kindness, patience, a sense of humor, and an outdoor space for Hannah to explore. A 4-legged canine assistant to help with training would be most welcome. Compensation includes loyal companionship, affection, joy, and the satisfaction of providing a safe, loving home for an absolutely dear pup.

Hannah is a 7-year-old spayed Blenheim female born 11-03-2017 who came into our care after being surrendered by a breeder. She was unfamiliar with all that makes a proper home: collar, leash, walks, toys, treats, affection, kindness. At first, she skittered from one hiding spot to another, quaking with fear when someone approached. She had no idea how to conduct herself as a house pet. Luckily, with patience and loving kindness, a wonderful, curious dog has emerged. Whoever adopts this sweet gal will be lucky enough to complete her heart-warming transformation.

Hannah is in good physical health. Her weight, heart, and teeth are all in good shape. In foster care, she was spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. She was very itchy when we first met her; this has improved with a switch in diet and some supplements. Hannah was not housetrained on arrival, but she followed the lead of our dog and quickly learned to go out back. She readily does her business outside, and then often will leisurely stroll to explore the outdoors. Hannah loves to wander around the large backyard: this is where she is most relaxed, confident, and happy. We keep on top of her housetraining by letting her out every 3-4 hours during the day. She recently started on medication to help with nighttime sleep incontinence; this seems to be working well so far.

Upon meeting Hannah, everyone is struck by her gentle, sweet nature. Originally, she was uncertain about newcomers, but now as soon as they sit down, she jumps up beside them to cuddle. She loves to sit next to us on the couch, and revels when we scratch her cottony noggin. She only rarely asks for petting (and then in a manner so sweet to be beyond refusal!) and revels when it comes. She sleeps contentedly all night without fussing. She gets along very well with our dog and is fine with cats and our chickens. Hannah is completely untrained and doesn’t understand how leashes and walks work, so she needs a fenced-in yard and would make a poor exercise companion. She tolerates riding in the car but doesn’t seek it out. She eats her food with gusto, including any medications or supplements we add to it, and enjoys her treats but never begs.

Hannah needs a calm, consistent, loving, secure environment to thrive. She does not require constant attention but always wishes to be nearby. She would thrive with a single person or small family, in a quiet home with regular rituals. The more Hannah knows what to expect, the safer she will feel; and the more she is allowed to learn about things in her own time, the faster progress she will make. She would benefit from the companionship of a mellow, well-adjusted dog to show her the ropes.

Sweet Hannah is on the verge of starting her next life phase, the one filled with quiet time, affection, joy, and freedom from the fear that dominated her early years. What she needs most of all is to feel safe. This calls for a kind, patient person in a calm environment to complete the transformation that has only just started for her! Hannah is a quiet, gentle, loving girl who demands little and will bring much joy to the family lucky enough to be her protector. She will relish her time spent with you and will always be happy to be near. Who is ready to adopt the job title of “Hannah’s Forever Family”?

If you are interested in adopting Hannah and live within a reasonable drive of her foster home in Deering, NH, please submit an online application and then contact Barbara Blanchette (blanchettebarbara06@gmail.com) so she knows of your interest.

Ruthie in Charlotte, NC

Here is the pup with her new family…

Ruthie is one of the sweetest Cavaliers we’ve fostered: she’s an extremely affectionate, petite and active Ruby female. With just three months until her second birthday, this young girl still shows signs of puppy behavior. She was placed with Cavalier Rescue USA when her previous owner decided she needed a home with more time to devote to her and her adolescent behaviors and personality. Ruthie is very healthy, up to date on her vaccines, spayed and heart clear.

Ruthie had very little training in her former home and wasn’t socialized as much as a puppy should be. Because of this, she will need a family that is both experienced in handling young dogs, will be active with her and spend a fair amount of time providing her with structure and formal obedience training. Although Ruthie has some reasonable obedience skills such as sit and come and has begun to sleep through the night in a crate, she exhibits signs of separation anxiety when left alone for longer periods. She is extremely excited and anxious when she leaves home or sees her family leave her behind. Her new owners will need to be committed to training techniques that help Ruthie feel safe and overcome her separation anxiety.

Ruthie is also excited to greet her people when they arrive home. She tends to bark when she’s excited, particularly before meals, when she is left alone in her crate or when she sees activity (dogs and walkers) outside the house. She also tends to nip gently, like a puppy, when she’s excited and is a bit bossy with the other dogs. Outside of the home she tends to be relatively timid when exposed to new situations. Ruthie is cat-like in her ability to climb on the backs of sofas, walks on them and launch herself off, always landing on her feet! She is quite the little athlete!

Her foster family has been working with her to address her more challenging behaviors: building on the basic obedience commands, reducing her desire to be airborne, helping her crate train, finding less stressful ways to arrive/leave home and help relieve her anxiety. Her new family will need to be committed to training Ruthie. She really is an absolute sweetheart. She just needs consistency, socializing, structure, boundaries, and lots and lots of love.

Ruthie is bright, a good learner and after a little warm-up is very friendly meeting people and other dogs. She’s had interactions with children and appears to enjoy their company. Her face lights up when she sees her friends and often follows them around the house. Ruthie likes walks in the neighborhood, but what she really loves is car rides! She is very toy oriented and loves to run, chase balls and play fetch. She might be a natural for companion events (like agility, Fast CAT, obedience, rally, barn hunt or scent work) and these may help her build confidence and overcome her anxiety and timidity.

Ruthie would do best with a family experienced with training dogs, especially young active ones. She needs a home where someone is home much of the time with a decent sized physically fenced yard. Respectful, older children with dog experience in the house to play with her would be a plus. A family that has no more than one other dog and has a great deal of time to devote to Ruthie’s training, exercising her, and enjoying life with her is very important.

If you think Ruthie would make a perfect addition to your family and you live within a reasonable driving distance to Charlotte, NC, please fill out an online application if you haven’t already, and then contact Angie Hansing at nccavalierrescuemom@gmail.com to let her know of your interest.

Mea in Ann Arbor, MI

Here is Mea with her new family…

This 9-month-old spunky black and tan female is a little fireball, full of energy and curiosity! Mea came into rescue when her family could no longer care for her due to medical issues in the family. She was well-loved and cared for in her previous home, and this shows through in her uninhibited trust of people and zest for life! Mea is very outgoing and eager to greet each new person and doggie she sees. She is a friendly and affectionate Cavalier, who will settle down for a rest on your lap after a romp session.

Mea enjoys walks, and while she does okay on a leash, she gets excited and pulls. We are continuing to work on her manners in several ways. She tends to jump up on people and shower them in kisses! Mea’s previous family did a wonderful job creating a solid foundation for potty training. She knows to go outside for potty, but will still have the occasional accident indoors.

Mea does a great job sleeping through the night in her crate, as long as it’s next to her foster mom’s bed. She also stays in the crate when her foster mom leaves the house for short periods of time (although her foster mom mostly works from home). Mea may let out a couple of cries in the first few minutes of being in her crate, but she quickly settles in. Because Mea loves to play and is an active little girl, it is important her new family is home during the day to keep the little energy bunny busy and to work on her good-canine manners and house training. Mea is a great travel companion and does well in the car. She has not shown signs of food aggression at mealtime, although there have been a couple of instances where she gets possessive over treats.

Mea loves whipping her toys around and chasing her Cavalier foster siblings in the backyard. While Mea is all about activity and play, she loves to snuggle as well. She likes to crawl into her Cavalier foster sister’s bed for a midday cuddle session, and she settles down to watch tv in the evening with her foster mom. Mea has so much love to give!

This little girl’s ideal fur-ever home is one where there is someone home most of the day to remind her to potty and take her for walks. She would do best with an active family that has another small, young dog to provide stimulation.

Mea received a clean bill of health from the vet and has been micro-chipped and spayed. She will be receiving her final puppy boosters later in February.

If you live within a 3 hour drive of the foster family and are interested in adding this little buddle of love and energy to your home, please complete the online application. (No need to complete another application, if you already have one in our database.) Be sure to send an email to June Kirchgatter at June.cavaliers@gmail.com to let her know you are interested in Mea. Willow in Cherry Hill, NJ

Here is Willow with her new family…

Willow is an adorable 3-year-old female Ruby Cavalier who came to Cavalier Rescue USA from a commercial breeder. Willow is a very curious young lady and is looking for her forever family.

Willow has learned to be a family dog. She has really enjoyed being a part of a family with the three other Cavaliers in the home. She plays well with her foster sisters as well as humans. Willow is very fun loving and social. She loves to say hello to anyone while on a walk, at a store, or any other dog-friendly place. When visitors came to her foster home, she would personally greet everyone. She especially loves anyone who will play fetch with her.

Willow has young dog energy; she loves to run and chase. Willow can be found rooting though the dog toy box searching for her favorite toys. Once she finds her preferred toys, she will place them in a special spot in the house, usually on a blanket or in her dog bed. Willow is a typical Cavalier who will follow you everywhere. She loves to observe her humans and wants to be your assistant in any task.

Willow enjoys going on adventures with her family- whether it is the neighborhood, parks, or shopping. She enjoys car rides and is always excited to go on a trip. She is a very good car passenger.

Willow most loves being near her humans. She is especially happy sitting on the couch and the bed. She loves to be pet, especially belly rubs. She loves to nestle in your arms and just look at you.

When coming into foster, Willow was extremely overweight at 34 pounds. Through a strict diet and exercise regime, Willow has lost seven pounds. Willow will need a family that is committed to keeping her at a healthy weight with diet and exercise. Willow is very active, and walks between one to three miles a day with her foster sisters. This exercise has enabled her to keep her at a healthy weight.

Willow is still working on learning basic commands as well as being housetrained. She is good when keeping to a schedule and will follow her foster sisters outside, but she does not yet alert if she needs to go outside, but is beginning to stand near the door. Her forever home will need to continue working with her on basic commands as well as reinforcing housetraining by keeping to a consistent schedule.

Willow sleeps in either her dog bed or on the big bed with her humans and her foster sisters. She would much prefer sleeping in the big bed with her family. Truly, Willow loves the bed; it is one of her favorite places and she will lay on the bed any chance she gets.

While in foster care, Willow had a spay and a dental cleaning, with no teeth extractions. Willow was treated for pancreatitis during her initial vet visit. She completed medication for this diagnosis. She was also diagnosed with a grade two heart murmur, which does not require medication. Willow is up-to-date on all her vaccines.

Willow gets along with other dogs, but has not been tested with cats. She gets along with younger and older children.

If you would like this beautiful girl in your home and are within two hours of Cherry Hill, NJ, please contact Rebecca Plimpton at Cavalier Rescue at beckplimpton@gmail.com to let her know you are interested in Willow.
